ELECTRI International Expands Talent Initiative Competition

October 31, 2017

ELECTRI International programs for NECA Student Chapters will now include the new Student Community Service Initiative.  This competition represents an expansion of ELECTRI’s project formerly known as the Student Passport Initiative.

In announcing this agenda enhancement, ELECTRI President, Russ Alessi, explained, “The Student Community Service Initiative offers NECA Student Chapters meaningful learning experiences in developing communities in the United States or abroad.” Each winning NECA Student Chapter Team will work to meet a critical need for new or upgraded electrical service in an underprivileged domestic or international location of the Student Chapter’s choice.

In working with college and university students throughout North America, ELECTRI’s goal has always been to promote the growth of programs that encourage construction management and electrical engineering students to take an active role in improving access to electricity in developing communities inside or outside the United States.

ELECTRI Council members want to help young adults learn the value of “paying it forward” by taking their time to volunteer for projects that will make a difference in the quality of life for other people. At the same time, this initiative will help advance the development of efficient and sustainable energy solutions and cultivate the professional development and personal growth of students.

  • The ELECTRI Council will select one international Student Community Service Initiative Project each year. ELECTRI will provide an award up to $20,000 solely for the use of team travel to the project site and the supplies required to complete the project.
  • The ELECTRI Council will also select one domestic Student Community Service Initiative Project each year. ELECTRI will provide an award up to $10,000 solely for the use of team travel to the project site and the supplies required to complete the project.

Each NECA Student Chapter may submit two proposals – one for a domestic project and one for an international location. A Student Chapter may only be awarded one of the two available awards.
