NECA Student Chapters help foster involvement with local school boards, colleges, and universities.

Overview

ELECTRI International offers grants for NECA Student Chapters, matched by their sponsoring NECA Chapter. These funds can be used to provide scholarships for individual students or to support the Student Chapter as a whole (with exceptions).

  • Maximum Funding for 2025: $1,000 per NECA Student Chapter.
  • Matching Requirement: The sponsoring NECA Chapter must match the grant amount.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for ELECTRI International’s matching support, NECA Chapters must complete the Talent Initiative Student Support Application Form.

  • Award Frequency: Grants are awarded once per year.
  • Application Period: Submissions must be made during the academic year (January-May or August-December semesters).
  • Usage: Funds must support students enrolled in Construction Management or related programs. Recipients must actively participate in a NECA Student Chapter.

Award Process

Each year, ELECTRI announces the available funding amount for NECA Student Chapter support. The process includes the following steps:

  1. Matching Requirement:
The sponsoring NECA Chapter must match or exceed the amount provided by ELECTRI. For instance:

    • If ELECTRI awards $1,000, the sponsoring NECA Chapter must contribute at least $1,000.
    • The total combined funds would then be $2,000.
  2. Requesting ELECTRI Funds:
When the NECA Chapter is ready to issue scholarships or support checks, they must formally request ELECTRI’s portion of the funds.
  3. Deciding Fund Allocation:
The sponsoring NECA Chapter decides how to use the combined funds. With ELECTRI providing $1,000 and the NECA Chapter matching $1,000, some examples include:

    • Scholarship for a Single Student: The total $2,000 is awarded to one outstanding student.
    • Scholarships for Multiple Students: The total $2,000 is divided equally among multiple students.
    • Funding Group Activities: The $2,000 is used to send students to the annual NECA Convention, providing financial support for their travel and accommodation expenses.
  4. Flexibility in Allocation:
The NECA Chapter has the flexibility to determine the best use of the funds based on the needs of the Student Chapter. Whether for scholarships or group activities, the Chapter should ensure that the funds directly benefit the students and align with the program’s objectives.

Scholarship Awards

If the funds are used for scholarships, ELECTRI recommends:

  • Establishing a scholarship review team to evaluate applications and select winners.
  • Defining additional criteria for selecting scholarship recipients.
  • Nominating students who meet the following criteria:
    • Studying Construction Management or a related program.
    • Actively involved in the NECA Student Chapter.
    • Maintaining a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Note: Scholarship recipients are responsible for any federal or state taxes resulting from the award. A 1099 form must be issued to recipients, and they must report the award as miscellaneous income on their tax filings. Neither ELECTRI International, NECA, nor the sponsoring NECA Chapter assumes responsibility for any tax consequences.
