MEP CONTRACTORS AND GCS: WHAT IS THE COST OF INEXPERIENCE?

The construction workforce is changing due to increased retirement and turnover as well as an aging workforce. Coupled with new project opportunities, the electrical construction industry must identify strategies to address the impacts of a less-experienced workforce.

This work’s objective was to evaluate the impact of inexperience on MEP Contractors and GCs during project delivery.   This investigation captured industry perspectives through a design thinking workshop and case study interviews to identify current challenges the electrical construction industry is facing and to identify potential strategies to address these challenges.

Key findings focus on introducing construction knowledge throughout the project delivery process, often focusing on collaborative strategies. Key strategies are listed in the report but the list is by no means exhaustive, but offers a starting point for the industry to begin to address the impacts of inexperience.
